If you're on Jane, you have two good options and one honest tradeoff.
Jane AI Scribe is already in your chart, and it's cheap. Every practitioner gets five free notes a month, then it's $15 a month for unlimited. No install, nothing new to learn.
Claire costs more, and it's built specifically for PT. It also does a few jobs Jane's scribe doesn't try to do.
So the question isn't really "which one is better." It's whether the extra stuff is worth more to you than the price difference. The quickest way to find out is a test on your own patients, and there's one at the bottom of this page. First, here's what you're comparing.
Jane's scribe, fairly
Jane launched AI Scribe in 2025, and by now it's a real product:
- You start it from the patient's Chart tab. You can record a live session, dictate afterward, or upload audio, and it works with Jane's own telehealth.
- It writes into a Smart SOAP Note chart part. You control the output with a prompt you can edit, plus a global prompt that applies across notes.
- Recordings can run up to 90 minutes, with one active recording at a time.
- On a phone you use the browser, not the home-screen shortcut. Jane also suggests skipping headsets so the mic picks up both of you.
- It's HIPAA, PIPEDA and GDPR compliant, and Jane says your data isn't used to train AI models.

The design choice that matters most for a PT is this one: Jane's scribe is made for every discipline Jane serves. Physio, chiro, massage, acupuncture, counseling. That's the right call for Jane, since one scribe across a mixed clinic is useful. It does mean the PT-ness of your note depends on how well you write your prompt. A scribe that isn't built for PT won't miss your measurements, but it may not write them the way a PT would, and you'll be the one tuning the prompt until it does.
What Claire does differently in a Jane clinic
Claire runs as a Chrome extension that docks beside your Jane chart. The first time, you click through Jane's charting fields so Claire knows where Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan go. After that, every note goes into Jane with one Push.
Here's what you get that the built-in scribe doesn't try to do:
It reads the chart history
Visit seven of a post-op ACL rehab looks nothing like visit one. When Claire writes a daily note, it has the initial eval plus the last visit's note and HEP in front of it. So your goals carry forward, the plan progresses, and it doesn't make up a new short-term goal you never set. The prompts explicitly tell it not to invent goals.
Templates by section, not one big prompt
Claire's templates are built from sections. For each one you can choose bullets or paragraphs, a detail level, whether to hide it when nothing came up, and any fixed text you always include. There are starting points for general PT, ortho, sports, and pelvic health. If you've ever spent a lunch break rewording a prompt to stop the AI from writing an essay in Objective, you'll get why this matters.
It learns from what you fix
Edit a note, press Learn, and Claire turns your change into a rule ("Write MMT as 4/5, not 'four out of five'", "Keep Assessment under 4 sentences"). The rules apply from the next note on. You can see every rule, turn them off, or write your own.

The HEP and the patient email
Once you've worked a few months with a scribe, this is where you notice the time you're still spending. The note's done, and you're still building the home program in another tool and writing a recap email.
Claire writes both from the same recording. The HEP has the exercises you actually did, with sets, reps and frequency, each matched to a video (your own YouTube channel's videos if you have them). The visit summary is in plain language, for the patient.

The price difference
There's no getting around it: Jane is cheaper. A solo PT using Jane's scribe pays $15 a month.
Claire starts at $49 a month for 50 visits ($45 billed annually), with unlimited therapists, and there's an unlimited-visit plan for solo PTs with a full caseload. Clinics get a group plan, a monthly pool of visits shared by unlimited therapists: a two-PT clinic seeing around 180 visits a month would be on the $229 Clinic plan, versus $30 on Jane.
Because group plans don't charge per therapist, the gap narrows when you add PTAs and part-timers. But for most Jane clinics, Claire will cost more. The question is whether a more complete PT note, the HEP, and the patient email save you enough time each week to cover it.

Who should pick which
Go with Claire if…
- You want the note to read like a PT wrote it without spending an afternoon tuning a prompt.
- You're tired of retyping the HEP after the note's already done.
- You email patients a visit recap, or you'd like to.
- You might switch EMRs one day, or you treat in more than one.
Jane AI Scribe is probably the better fit if…
- Price is the deciding factor. $15 a month is hard to beat.
- Your clinic mixes disciplines (PT, chiro, massage) and you want one scribe for everyone.
- You want zero extra software. No extension, nothing to install.
- Your notes are short and your current Smart SOAP prompt already gets you 90% of the way.
The test: settle it in one week
Don't take our word for it, or Jane's. Here's a test that takes about a week and costs nothing (Claire's trial is seven days with no card, and Jane gives you five free notes):
- Pick three visits: one initial eval, one routine daily, and one messy visit (new complaint, a lot of back-and-forth, maybe a family member talking).
- Get consent and run both scribes on the same session. Jane records inside Jane, and Claire records through its extension, so they don't get in each other's way.
- Don't edit anything yet. Put the two notes side by side.
- Count your edits. How many changes would you need before you'd sign each one? Pay attention to Objective (are the measurements actually there?) and Plan.
- Score the extras. Did you still have to build the HEP? Write the patient email?
- Do the math. Minutes saved per visit × visits per week, against the price difference.
Why we think the difference is worth it
Jane built a good scribe for every discipline in its clinics: physio, chiro, massage, counseling. That's the right call for Jane. But a scribe that has to work for a massage therapist and a counselor can't be shaped around a PT visit the way a tool built specifically for PT can.
Claire is that tool. It knows what a daily note on visit seven of ACL rehab should look like, because it reads the eval and the last visit before it writes. It keeps getting closer to how you write, because every fix you make can become a rule. And it finishes the parts of the visit Jane's scribe doesn't touch: the home program and the patient recap.
Jane's scribe saves you money. Claire is built to save you the time. On a full PT caseload, we think that's the better trade.
